Who is Danielle Micheal?

Based upon the information I relayed in my last three postnot so much the thirdone could make an assumption to who they believed Danielle to be, but now I want to give an in-depth description on who Danielle was to me.

After the handshakes, smiles, and pictures I left the hotel and immediately began to summarize Danielle. As I walked to the car where my mom sat restlessly, the sun started to shine a little brighter and I thought to myself, she's more than her impatient nail tapping and irritated face expressions, but what?

"So did you get anything?" My mom asked in her semi-annoyed voiceshe'd been waiting in the car for over an hour and a half.

"Yeah, I got a little something." I then internally answered my question.

Danielle was a go-getter and a person of determination and progress. She was phenomenal.

Actions

Throughout the entire interview Danielle stayed in motion. Whether it was getting up to help new guest or going to the back to restock the empty cookie container, Danielle stayed active, and she did it without complaint.

I recalled her happily helping a costumer who was rudely demanding for guest to be added to her room. Danielle stayed calm and complied to the wishes of her dear customer.

I even replayed her nail tapping in the back of my mind and concluded it was not that she was irritated with me, but that she was more concerned with pleasing her guests, even if it meant rushing my questions.

Danielle's actions showed me not only did she care about her job, but that she was a hard worker who was willing to work her way to the top.

Answers

I stared out the window in tremendous though as my mother and I passed through streets lined with lush trees and shoppers. My mom continued to ask me questions about my day with Danielle and I began to understand where Danielle's sense of irritation stemmed from.

While I thought of Danielle's answers to my questions I began to further understand who she was.

She was a woman who based herself on accomplishments and being accomplished. She wanted to be successful because she was surrounded by successful people. Her mother, father, and friends were all people of prosperity and because of that she formed her ways of life with hopes to meet them in their time of triumph.

So, in conclusion of what I grasped in an hour and a half interviewing Danielleand 'Abby' I can say that it is best not to judge someone solely on their actions. Everyone has a deeper side to them. Danielle proved that to me because initially I thought of her as impatient and unconcerned, but with further inspection I seen she was acting in a means to better herself through her work.

I appreciate Danielle for helping me when no one else would, and helping me see her as a woman with a promising future. Danielle is bright, constructive, and according to 'Abby' very silly.

'Abby': The Helping Clerk of Hampton Inn

'Abby', the front desk clerk
After interviewing Danielle I felt it was not enough to hear who she was to herself, because after all who in their right mind would think of themselves poorly, or represent themselves poorly to someone else? So, to shed further light on who Danielle really was I interviewed the front desk clerk (who's name I forgot, but just for the sake of the blog we'll call Abby).

"Do you mind if I ask you a couple questions about Danielle?" I asked ever so nicely because I was almost sure I had worn out my welcome from my excessive questioning.

"Sure," she stated," But, let's wait until Danielle gets back to the front counter."

We waited, and I examined Abby as she waltzed back and forth behind the employee’s desk.

She was a short thing, maybe 5'0 or 5'3, at the most. Her hair was brown, medium length, and styled by the air that had dried it that morning. From appearance she seemed shy yet observant, someone who could help me pin-point Danielle, but upon interaction I was proven everything but correct.

After Danielle returned from handling her duties that she seemed so desperate to complete, Abby and I returned to the questioning table. She rocked herself left and right as a means to get comfortable, and then once again I began a strict Q&A session.

"Work Friendly," hinting that there was no further relationship between them besides work.

Abby grinned and smiled as she too eyed my page of questions that was about four times smaller than that of Danielle'slucky her. We continued.

Abby went on to constantly tell me how much of a ‘hard-worker’ Danielle was. Most of her answers were short and simply, just enough to answer the question, but not enough to showcases Danielle as a person other than her boss. But, I continued to question although my gut feeling told me it was pointless.

"Nothing." That was the answer to the next three questions I asked about Danielle. Nothing. Nothing. Nothing. And that was exactly what I was getting from Abby, nothing.

At that point it was very clear that Abby was not going to be any further help towards creating a greater picture of Danielle. So I concluded with a final question.

"What type of person would you describe Danielle as?"

She fidgeted around with the belt that was secured around her waist and finally answered, "Funny, Bubbly, Happy."

And, that was it.

To say the least I did not receive any helpful information from 'Abby' about Danielle besides what I had already gathered from Danielle herself. I appreciated her help, but the time I spent questioning her proved futile. It seemed she was answering her questions with the mindset of don't say anything wrong about Boss Danielle, which was no help to me.

I ended my hotel rendezvous with quick pictures of Danielle, Abby, and myself. I thanked them one last time with handshakes and smiles then exited the hotel just as happy as Danielle was after I announced her questioning was over. Now, it was time to make a collective illustration of Danielle Michael, the Hard Worker of the Hampton Inn.

"What is your relationship with Danielle?"

Danielle: The Person

In my previous post I depicted Danielle as a manager, a leader, a woman who was dedicated serving every guest that entered and exited her hotel, but now I want to show her in a deeper light. A daughter, a girlfriend (future wife and mother), a student, a dreamer, and a friend is how I want to portray Danielle.

Danielle Michael
"I would describe myself as genuine."

I instantly second guessed the answer she spit so confidently. From the side eyes I received that symbolized Hurry the hell up, I felt genuine was not the best word to describe her. Whatever genuine ways she spoke of were shadowed by her habit of impatiently tapping her freshly manicured nails on the table. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. The perfect drumroll her fingers created with every question. So, I increased my speed of delivering questions.

School

Danielle was a part-time student at Clayton State University and even attended a few years at New York City College of Technology, a very pronounced college for technology.

It was evident that school was a priority in Danielle’s life through her constant uses the words 'accomplished' and 'student'. She even considered graduating from high school and college to be her life’s greatest achievements. Even her spare time consisted of her books and studies.

Friends and Family

"My parents were the best parents I could have asked for. They are both very supportive and accomplished." It was now clear where her sense of accomplishment can from. She spoke of her family with so much love, and at that point a hint of genuine emerged from her. She recalled trips to Disney World and Barcelona with her family that caused a minute smirk to skim across her face.

Danielle was very family orientated as she spoke of her dreams to have a husband, three to four children, and a dog; the story of the white picket fence.

She went on to talk about her friends and how they were her motivation to become 'accomplished'.

"My circle is pretty successful. I have one friend who started a small business and another one who is a traveling nurse. So my close friends and family are pretty accomplished. They motivate me a lot."

Ring. Ring. Ring. Again she answered the hotel phone while this time giving me the finger that meant 'give me a minute'. So I gave her one, then two, then twenty-five.

While I watched The Voice that was shown from the mounted TV she worked and dealt with the guest who checked in and out. I altered my attention between her and the vocal talents on the screen. Then finally she returned

"Are you almost finished?" I simply replied yes, and got back into my questions.

Dreams

Aspirations were evident in Danielle.

"Few people know I've been to over 20 countries." I was amazed by her travels and even more by her wish to leave Georgia and move to Miami, California, or her home state New York; all places of motion and bright futures.

Her endeavors of changing herself also intrigued me when I asked, "What do you dislike most about yourself?"

"My pessimism, I tell myself I can't do something before I even try. It's a bad habit I wish I could stop."

"Okay. We’re done."

"We’re done?" She said a little too excited for my liking.

"Yes we are thank you."

Danielle showed herself to me as a woman with a bright future. And, though her actions of impatience may not be a trait I'd wish to acquire, her love for family and friends and ambition for success was definitely plus for me.

Danielle: The Manager

Hampton Inn in Covington, GA

On March 17, 2014, I walked toward the entrance of the Hampton Inn, in Covington. I was in search for someoneanyonewho could assist me in an interview I needed for a huge college blog assignment, so I entered the lobby nervously and began my task.

"Hello my name is Bayeisha, I hope I'm not disturbing you, but I have a college assignment where I have to interview and profile a stranger. I was wondering if I could interview you?"

The front desk clerk looked at me discombobulated for a few seconds then stated, "Hold on, I have to ask my manager." She walked into the caddy-cornered back room that was on her left side. I could hear the faint voices of two workers deciding whether they wanted to accept my offer or shoo me offlike previous store employees with claims of being 'very busy'. A couple moments later both the clerk and another woman appeared from the back. The other woman began to speak.

"Hello, my name is Danielle, I am the assistant manager. Umm... We can help you, but if we have guest we will have to put you on hold until we are finished with them." I agreed to the deal and headed towards the small dining table and chairs she directed me to.

Danielle Michael

Danielle was a heavyset woman of average stature. Her skin was brown, flawless, and perfectly moisturized and her hair was wild like a natural lioness. She wore a black button up that was accompanied by black slacks and black flatsthe basic uniform.

While I waited for Danielle to join me at our new found interview table I admired the hotel's leisure area. It was fresh. The colors scheme was warm with browns, creams, and hints of black. There were about five couches and tables with bowls of saran-wrapped fruit, there was even a TV mounted on wall that separated the lobby and leisure room.

I was comfortable.

Soon enough Danielle joined me with the hotel business phonewhich told me she meant businessand we began a strict Q&A session.

 Working History

"Umm..." she started as she restlessly checked around lobby for guest. "I worked in retail. I worked at The Children's Place for five years, then I was in banking, and I worked at a bank for three years."

It was evident by Danielle's long term job history that she was a dedicated worker, hints the reason she was hotel manager.

Being the Boss

When asked about the duties of being an assistant manager Danielle simply stated, "It's pretty easy." She gave kudos to her team for allowing her job to be easy and even went on to say most employees did not view her as a boss because of how easy she was to deal with and her silly nature.

If was hard to grasp this aspect of her from the irritated face expressions she unconsciously gave my phone that recorded her.

Vision for the Hotel

Danielle had clear intentions for the hotel in the way she spoke of hoping to expand it. She also wanted to change the hotel in the respects of:
  • Being more hospitable to the guest to make them feel like family
  • Changing the attitude of the employees
  • Being more considerate of guest needs
  • Danielle wanted the Hampton Inn to be utopia for its customers and felt she was the best for the job.

Ring. Ring. Ring. The phone rung and Danielle answered, "Hello this is Danielle at Hampton Inn in Covington, how may I help you?" She walked off without a word of dismissal to handle her manager duties. As I sat back, waited, and wondered based off her somewhat rude departure, is she really silly?
